NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Patron Driven Acquisition in University Library Online

MIPP introduces the new model of Russian eBook platform University Library Online - Patron Driven Acquisition.

University Library Online is one of biggest internet libraries in Russia, containing more than 100 000 e-books on social sciences and humanities, basic and fundamental sciences, applied and technical sciences, life sciences and medicine. The database comprises Russian classics, study books, encyclopedias, old and modern books, maps, illustrations, dictionaries and much more.

The essence of this model is to purchase only those books which are read by users. Library has access to thousands of books but buy only those which are in demand, thus it doesn’t overpay and doesn’t make mistakes.

Principles of Patron Driven Acquisition in University Library Online:

• Access is IP authorized.

• Library makes advance payment.

• Books are purchased at client’s choice at the period of contact (for any number of years according to the license).

• Unspent money is saved for future usage.

Variants:

Confirmed by librarian (Reader makes request for a book subscription. After librarian’s confirmation it becomes available).

Automatic purchase (Request for a book is sent automatically if this book is ordered for the second time If the cost of the book is less than $15 and there is sufficient amount of money at library’s account, the request is automatically confirmed, the first reading is free).

Selection by librarian (Librarian is free to decide to purchase a book).

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Slavic Humanities Index

MIPP would like to bring to your attention a new bibliographic database in the field of Slavic humanities - Slavic Humanities Index.

It is an extensive collection of bibliographic records from more than 220 scholarly and cultural periodicals published in the Slavic humanities in Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe. At the moment the platform covers more than 215 000 records of articles, book reviews, conference proceedings, bibliographies, interviews and other materials in more than 20 languages across different disciplines including: history, literature, philosophy, language, linguistics, ethnology, theatre and film studies, and cultural, borderland, and regional studies. Most periodicals are indexed from around 1994 to the current issue, but some select publications are indexed back into the 1980s.

This Index includes titles of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland and Czech Republic. Full list of sources can be found at http://slavus.ca/en/journaltitles.html.

This is a cover-to-cover database and many major Slavic humanities journals published in the region are gathered in one place and records are accurately edited; standard subjects and transliteration systems are used. Many periodicals covered in the database are not available on the Internet, especially those journals published in the 1990s, which are often difficult to locate.

Different search and sort options are implemented at the platform, among them search by author, title, publication date, keywords, language (both in native alphabets or using the Library of Congress or International Scholarly transliteration systems), Boolean operators and wildcards.

You are welcome send your orders or questions to MIPP Electronic Resources Department at eresources@mippbooks.com.
